A recently
completed expansion enables Currituck County to produce an extra 1
million gallons of water per day at the Southern Outer Banks Water
System in Corolla.
The Southern Outer Banks Water System has approximately
4,000 customers that use 365 million gallons of water per year,
compared to the mainland water system with around 5,000 customers that
use 321 million gallons of water per year.
Water
usage in Corolla rises dramatically in the summer tourist season,
topping two million gallons per day in mid-July, compared to just
291,000 gallons per day in the middle of January.
Communities
now served by the Southern Outer Banks Water System include the
Villages at Ocean Hill, Ocean Hill section 1, Corolla Village area,
Whalehead Beach, Ocean Sands section A, B and C, Spindrift, Corolla
Light, Currituck Club, Monteray Shores and Pine Island. full story
